Sara Gutterman is the cofounder and CEO of Green Builder Media. Sara is a visionary thought leader and passionate advocate for sustainability. A former venture capitalist, she has participated in the life cycle (from funding to exit) of over 20 companies, with an emphasis on combining sustainability and profitability. She is also on the Board of Directors at Dvele, runs the Rural Segment for Energize Colorado, and is a former County Commissioner.
In this episode, Sara & Karen dig into just two of the amazing services and products coming from the Green Builder Media team.
COGNITION Smart Data consumer insights is the market intelligence and data services division at GBM, which Sara has been spear-heading for about a decade. They're helping builders, developers, and product manufacturers make better decisions on how to launch and market themselves to the largest homebuyer audience that exists today: older millennials and Gen-Z. This has been especially insightful because the data shows that sustainability proves to be a significant factor of consideration for this consumer group, and GBM's clients are eager to get their attention. Builders and developers have also benefited from using COGNITION to help them identify and capture tax credits, or even to build a community that is more fire-resistant.
In the second half of our conversation, Sara shares details about Transcend Communities. GBM has joined forces with prefab home builder Dvele to launch this unique line of prefab homes and communities that are net-zero, all-electric, healthy, resilient, solar powered and storage-connected. They seek to bring a new level of sustainability, intelligence, and comfort to the housing sector, by integrating some of the most advanced building products available in the world today. The first demonstration home will be set in southwestern Colorado, and will be available for virtual or in-person private tours by the end of this year.
Other topics we cover include: ESG reporting for homebuilders; the challenges of finding construction workers in an extremely rural location of the country; and overcoming the "this is how we've always done it" mentality and public opinion of construction workers and professionals.
