NOT ENOUGH SPACE to use thick batt-insulation?

There is a solution for increasing the comfort in your home and building envelope with an all-in-one solution for multiple applications. Instead of using a bulky thick insulation there is another product to consider. Quattro Reflective Insulation 1/2" highly flexible product is increasing in popularity with new construction. Martin Jansen with Smart Tech International, celebrates this product. NASA has installed it into the Steve Fosset, Global Flyer, that is displayed at the Air and Space Museum called Quattro.

Audree Grubesic, of the Offsite Dirt Construction Series is informed, this insulation has many uses and applications for offsite constructions and panel wall systems. It's flexible and easy to assembly application installed on the wall, floor or roof system.

It can be used as an insulation material, vapor barrier and roof membrane. It is thin, multi-reflective and has 4 layers of aluminum multi-layer insulation material, which is thermally-welded across all its surfaces. It has a Fire Resistance Classification of ASTM E84 Class 1 / Class A, and EN 13501-1 BS1d0 – which means that when it is exposed to extremely hot temperatures and/or flame, produces zero toxic or irritating burn gases and the melted core does not leak out.

The semi-rigid complex composed of the following successive layers:

  1. A film of pure Aluminum, 30 microns thick, treated against oxidation

  2. A layer of bubbles of dry air enclosed in self-extinguishing polyethylene

  3. A film of pure Aluminum treated against oxidation

  4. A layer of small air cells enclosed in self-extinguishing polyethylene

  5. A film of pure Aluminum treated against oxidation

  6. A layer of bubbles of dry air enclosed in self-extinguishing polyethylene

  7. A film of pure Aluminum, 30 microns thick, treated against oxidation

WHY the AIR GAP?

To achieve the full insulating potential of QUATTRO for protecting against energy exchange by radiation, we recommend that you preserve an air gap of at least ¾ inch, preferably on both sides but at least on one side. To maximize the soundproofing effect, it must be stretched out tight to prevent any point of contact with adjacent surfaces. To achieve this, in most cases, counter-battens with a minimum thickness of 1 inch are required.

This product offers a great R-Value which in term makes the living space, more comfortable and saves on energy use. Below is a diagram of the values that make up this reflective insulation product.
