By Mark Wille

Twenty neighborhoods welcomed the community to 150 destinations at no cost on October 15 - 16, 2022 in Chicago. Lawndale, Chinatown, Humboldt and Avondale to name a few of the existing neighborhoods. If you like cool photos scroll to the end (wink).

Back in 2011, is where this all started. I worked with this group to showcase our facility on Pulaski just north of Fullerton. GreenDepot aka GreenMaker was the home for over 36 presentations in 48 hours.

Fast Forward Back to 2022.

Some things do not change, Architecture is part of the heart and soul of Sweet Home Chicago and the buildings draw you in. Architect Doug Farr is one of my favorite people to talk about buildings and design. Diving into the beauty and the story as well as the trends that cause problems. Here are a few books that describe the urban design and affects with nature.

Grab a copy and while you are at it pick up this one too.

Doug is a great friend, and he shared these photos this year.

A quote to some it all up " Open House Chicago has a unique capacity to capture the rich history of Chicago's neighborhoods."

Visit all of the sites virtually with this link: https://openhousechicago.org/archives/

On October 25, 2022, Doug Farr will be speaking at the Energy Revolution Exhibit with the Chicago Architecture Center: https://www.architecture.org/exhibits/exhibit/energy-revolution/

OffSiteDirt will be with Doug and PHriends for the kick-off to "phiuscon 2022: Emissions Up Power Down." Look for updates next week in part two and an interview coming soon with Doug and I. If you toured any sites and have photos and stories to share please let us know.

Thank You to CAC and Open House Chicago for all of your amazing work and #greenstepsforward.

THANK YOU

Havelock Wool
