Chicago Cubs Save on Water with High Efficiency Fixtures

Sloan Park is the Spring Training home of the Chicago Cubs. The 15,000-seat park, which features many similarities to the iconic Wrigley Field, hosts thousands of fans each spring to watch the Cubs gear up for the upcoming baseball season.

Cubs host 18 games at Sloan Park this year starting on February 25th for Spring training season. But Arizonia is not like Chicago. It's hot and dry. This means water conservation is a must. According to the Arizona State Climate Office, Arizona is currently in its 21st year of long-term drought, so Sloan Park has placed a special emphasis on water-saving restroom products. Sloan provided the ballpark with 1.28 GPF flushometers for water closets, which save 14% more water than 1.6 GPF flushometers, as well as .125 GPF flushometers for urinals, saving 50% more water than .25 GPF flushometers. Together, these fixtures are helping to reduce the ballpark's water use by over 30%.

High-efficiency plumbing fixtures are used in a variety of facilities where water conservation and cost savings are a priority. Here are some examples of facilities that commonly use high-efficiency plumbing fixtures:

  1. Hotels: High-efficiency plumbing fixtures can help hotels reduce water consumption and lower their utility bills. According to the EPA, hotels can save up to 20 percent on their water bills by installing water-efficient fixtures.

  2. Office buildings: High-efficiency plumbing fixtures can help office buildings reduce their water consumption and lower their utility bills. Water-efficient fixtures can save up to 30 percent on water use compared to traditional fixtures.

  3. Hospitals: Hospitals require a lot of water for sanitation and patient care, which can result in high water bills. High-efficiency plumbing fixtures can help hospitals reduce their water consumption and lower their utility bills.

  4. Restaurants: Restaurants use a lot of water for cooking, cleaning, and sanitation. High-efficiency plumbing fixtures can help restaurants reduce their water consumption and lower their utility bills.

  5. Schools and universities: High-efficiency plumbing fixtures can help schools and universities reduce their water consumption and lower their utility bills. According to the EPA, schools can save up to 20 percent on their water bills by installing water-efficient fixtures.

The cost savings of high-efficiency plumbing fixtures vary depending on the type of fixture and the facility's water usage. However, according to the EPA, the average family can save up to $380 per year by installing water-efficient fixtures in their home. For commercial facilities, the savings can be even greater. For example, a hotel with 500 rooms can save up to $15,000 per year on water bills by installing water-efficient fixtures. Overall, the cost savings of high-efficiency plumbing fixtures can be significant and can help facilities reduce their operating costs while conserving water.
